Open Innovation system

World’s first research system to realize a "In-Body Hospitals"

Open Innovation system, which facilitates industry-academic-government collaboration.
This project, as "Center of Open Innovation Network for Smart Lifecare" aim to realize a new platform, where each participating research institutes can accelerate their collaboration, and moreover, create new innovation via industry-academia collaboration, which could not succeed in industry and university alone.

Participating research centers (As of April 2021)

The participating research institutes promote a new integrated research system, by taking advantage of being close, toward the tasks below in the iCONM that facilitates industry-academic-government collaboration "under the one-roof".

  • Employ the "backcasting approach" visualizing an ideal society at the starting point and subsequently setting R&D plans towards realization of the society.
  • Promote of Interdisciplinary Research with no technical barrier of medical doctors, researchers and engineers
  • Integrate elemental technologies as all Japan.
  • Practical realization at core hospital of clinical studies which covers a wide range of nanomedical applications.
  • Research feedbacks of medical and health data obtained via experimental studies.,
  • Transmit new regulations (nanomedicine: funding program of Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare)
  • Develop multidisciplinary leaders who are able to integrate industry-academic-government.

Innovation Center of NanoMedicine (iCONM)

Located in KING SKYFRONT (Kawasaki City) on the opposite shore to Haneda Airport, the Innovation Center of NanoMedicine (iCONM) was completed in April 2015. As a core center for integrated research, it will accommodate laboratories of universities, industries and governmental organizations and accelerate industry-university collaboration in and out of Japan.

Built on a site of 8,000㎡, a four-story building of a total floor area of 10,000㎡ will be equipped with clean rooms, laboratories for synthesis experiments, biochemical laboratories, animal rooms and cutting-edge analytical systems, such as microprocessor and in-vivo confocal microscope.
There are opportunities to mingle and mix freely - to promote active interaction among researchers, the building is designed with various open spaces and shared spaces. An environment for supporting open innovation is ready.
